4th Annual Nearly Naked Mile
Presented by the WSUSA Senate
November 8, 2013
The fourth annual “Nearly Naked Mile” fun run will happen at Weber State University on Friday, November 8th, 2013 at 8pm. This annual and exciting event is presented by the Weber State University Student Association (WSUSA) Senate, and it attracts hundreds of students each year to one of the most memorable and charitable student-lead events at Weber State University.
Each year, participants are encouraged to donate their clothing and run a mile “nearly naked” throughout campus in the freezing November weather. Fittingly, the slogan of the event is “Run your clothes off in the cold to keep others warm.” This year, the clothing will be donated to local shelters and services, including St. Anne’s Center, YCC of Ogden, The Ogden Rescue Mission, and others. These services and shelters provide clothing and assistance for victims of domestic violence, rape and economic hardship. The event also encourages participants to donate food items at the event to the Weber Cares Program, which feeds needy students on campus throughout the year for free via a food pantry service that was founded as part of this event 4 years ago.
Participants running on a cold and bitter night in the middle of the winter serves as a reminder that their donated clothing and food items fill a critical need in the community – and will help ensure that members of the community can be warm throughout the coming winter months. Come rain or snow- the event will happen.
The event beings at 8pm in the Ballrooms of the Shepherd Union Building in the heart of campus, with the run commencing at the Stewart Bellower Plaza at 8:45pm. The mile long course winds throughout the Weber State campus, including passing by its iconic duck pond and statues before ending back at the Union Building. Afterwards, awards for creative costumes and various raffle prizes from community businesses will be given out to those in attendance.
The event is free and open to the public, although donations of two clothing items or two cans of food are strongly encouraged. The always coveted “Nearly Naked Mile” t-shirts will also be sold for $5.
